Gelatin Gummies Recipe for Gut Health

Did you know that gelatin can do wonders for your health? This often overlooked ingredient has been proven to have several benefits that are worth exploring.

You can get gelatin from food sources, but one of my favorite yummy snacks to make is gelatin gummies using real fruit juice! I usually have a square every night before bed and I find that I get such restful sleep, especially when I make it with tart cherry juice.

Benfits of Gelatin

First and foremost, gelatin helps repair the gut lining. It contains glycine, an amino acid that is essential for maintaining a healthy digestive system. By repairing the gut lining, gelatin promotes better nutrient absorption and overall gut health.

In addition to gut health, gelatin is also known to promote healthy hair, skin, and nails. The high protein content in gelatin makes it an easily digestible source of protein for the body, which can lead to healthier, more vibrant skin and hair. It contains important amino acids that are necessary for the body to produce hormones that regulate sleep, mood, and appetite. Gelatin is a form of hydrolyzed collagen so they share the same benefits.

Furthermore, gelatin can improve the production of stomach acid. This is important because stomach acid helps break down food and allows the body to absorb important nutrients.

Another benefit of gelatin is that it's good for your joints. The amino acids found in gelatin can help reduce inflammation and promote joint health, which is especially beneficial for those who suffer from arthritis or other joint-related conditions.

Lastly, gelatin can also help promote restful sleep. Its high glycine content can have a calming effect on the body, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.

It's worth noting that gelatin was once a staple in our ancestors' diets, who practiced nose to tail eating, where 50% of the animal was consumed, including gelatin. However, modern diets have left out this crucial ingredient, which is why supplementing with gelatin can be so beneficial.

While whole food sources of collagen/gelatin, such as broth and gelatinous cuts of meat, are the best options, gummies made with gelatin are also a fun and easy way to get the benefits of this amazing ingredient. So, why not add some gelatin to your diet and see the benefits for yourself?

One of my favorite reason to make more gelatin gummies is because gelatin can help balance out the amino acids found in muscle meats. Muscle meats are generally high in methionine, an amino acid that is essential for various functions in the body. However, when consumed in excess, methionine can be inflammatory and cause oxidative stress in the body.

As I mentioned, gelatin is rich in glycine, an amino acid that has anti-inflammatory properties and can help counteract the negative effects of excess methionine. By consuming gelatin alongside muscle meats, you can help balance out your amino acid intake and reduce inflammation in the body.

It's worth noting that while muscle meats are an excellent source of protein, they should not be the only source of protein in your diet. It's essential to have a varied diet that includes other sources of protein, such as eggs, fish, nuts, and seeds, to ensure you're getting all the essential amino acids your body needs.

While gelatin is not absolutely necessary to balance out muscle meats, it can be a helpful addition to your diet, especially if you consume a lot of muscle meats. By consuming gelatin alongside muscle meats, you can help reduce inflammation and promote overall health and well-being!

Benefits of Tart Cherry

๐Ÿ’ Tart cherries are a natural source of melatonin and rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body.

Several studies have investigated the effects of tart cherry juice on sleep quality. Great addition for those who struggle with insmonia.๐Ÿ’ค

I also love tart cherry juice for its anti-inflammatory effects. In a randomized, placebo-controlled study, tart cherry juice significantly reduced inflammation biomarkers that are common in chronic diseases. This is especially great for joint pain or those who have arthritis.

Several studies have also shown tart cherry juice to aid significantly in exercise recovery and muscle pain after exercise.

When I first discovered about tart cherry, I would drink a glass every single night and even purchased some tart cherry capsules for my mom who has lower back pain. The tartness of the juice grew on me and I find myself craving a glass almost every night.

Gelatin Gummies Recipe

Ingredients:

๐Ÿ’ 1 liter of the juice of your choosing

๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿณ Feel free to play around with this recipe and use whatever juice of your choosing. If you do use tart cherry juice, then make sure there are no added ingredients. I like the brand โ€œLakewood Organicโ€.

๐Ÿ’ 1/2 cup of beef gelatin (I like the brand Perfect Supplements, use code JADE10 to save ๐Ÿ’ฐ)

Directions:

- Sprinkle the gelatin on top of the juice and let it BLOOM (about 5 mins).

- Once it has bloomed, turn your stovetop onto med. heat and mix until the gelatin completely dissolves.

- Once you see small bubbles start to form then remove from heat and pour it into a gummy mold or tupperware.

Let it sit in the fridge overnight! โ„๏ธ

Tart cherry juice is also very tart, ๐Ÿ˜ so if you donโ€™t like the tart taste then you can add some maple syrup to sweeten it up.

Although gelatin contains protein, it is not a complete protein.

Enjoy and make sure to tag me if you recreate this recipe ๐Ÿซถ
